概數的譯法
概數是用來表示簡略、大概情況的數字。英語和漢語中都有使用概數來表示不確定的範圍或概念的語言現象。例如漢語中的幾個、十來個、若干、大約、大概、左右、上下、約有、不到、多於、少於等概念，在英語中都能找到與之對等的詞。
(一) 表示“大約”、“不確定”的翻譯策略
在英語中，一般常使用about， some， around， round， nearly， towards， somewhere about， estimated， approximately， in/of/on the border of， close to等詞修飾數字，表示“不確定”、“大約”、“上下”、“將近”、“幾 乎”等。
It is nearly (or towards) 4 o’clock.
現在已是將近4點了。
The price of this new machine is in the neighborhood of a thousand dollars.
這臺新機器的價格約1，000美元。
According to the weatherman， the temperature will be up 5℃ or so.
據天氣預報，氣溫將升高5℃左右。
(二)表示“高於”、“多於”的翻譯方法
英語常用more than， odd， over， above， long， past， or more， upwards of ， higher than， exceed， in excess of 等詞修飾數字，表示“超過”、“以上”、“有餘”、“高於”、“多於”等。
The weight of this child is said to be over one hundred pounds.
據說，這個孩子的體重有100多磅。
It took me more than two hours to finish the homework.
我花了兩個多小時才做完家庭作業。
(三)表示“少於”、“差一些”、“不到”等的翻譯方法
英語常用less， less than， below， no more than， under， short of ， off， to， within， as few as 等詞修飾數字，表示“少於”、“不到”、“以下”等。
The price of that tricycle is less than one hundred and eighty-five francs.
那輛三輪車的人售價還不到185法郎。
倍數的譯法
倍數在英語中使用得相當普遍，但在表達方式上，英漢兩種語言卻大相徑庭。例如：to increase 5 times，漢語可譯成“增加到5倍”，也可譯成“增加了4倍”;to decrease 5 times在漢語中通常不譯為“減少5倍”，而譯為“減少到1/5”或“減少了4/5”。因此“了”和“到”這類問題很容易使人混淆迷惑。翻譯時務必謹慎嚴密，力爭做到準確無誤。
(一)倍數增加的譯法
英語中表示倍數增加時，常常要把基數包括在內。增加的倍數通常指現在的數量為原來數量的倍數。譯成漢語“增加到若干倍”、“為……的若干倍”或“若干倍於……”這種句型時，可將原文中數字照舊譯出;若是譯成“增加(了)若干倍”這種句型時，通常要把原文中的數字減去一。
