四級複合式聽寫佔全卷10%，共11題。前8題需要考生聽寫出8個單詞，每詞佔0.5%。後三題需要考生聽寫出句子，每句得分2%。其中單詞部分必須聽到什麼寫什麼，很可能會涉及被動語態、時態、單複數等語法。句子部分有兩種做法，考試規定，可以聽到什麼寫什麼，也可以用自己的總結語言寫要點。聽寫共播讀三遍，第一遍和第三遍勻速，第二遍時，句子部分播讀完畢會停頓1分鐘左右。
複合式聽寫需要考生具備綜合的聽力能力，是聽力考試中最難的題目，在此部分獲得滿分幾乎被認為是“不可能完成的任務”。究其原因，蓋有以下幾點：

若全對，則證明你的拼寫能力為較好或合格(因為單詞不難)，若錯一部分或全錯，則需要注意，你的複合式聽寫的基礎能力需要提高。
此處我們不談如何背單詞，只提醒大家背哪些單詞。所有考試中聽力部分的詞彙最為口語化，且在所有部分使用頻度最高。所以我們的要求大家將2003年-2009年6月所有四級真題聽力部分的原文和選項部分的詞彙全部背會。要求聽懂且能夠準確拼寫。
2、 如何邊聽邊寫
解決了第一個能力之後，一些簡單的小方法就可以在題目中使用了。
2-1 縮寫法。用首1-2字母縮寫聽到的詞，這樣會寫得更快;
2-2 寫句子的頭尾。在記憶一個整句的.時候，考生都更加容易記住句子的開始和結尾，先寫這些內容，也可以增加分數。
2-3 有舍有得。一些修飾性詞彙，例如副詞和形容詞，並非重點。而對句子含義不影響的成分一般不扣分。比如06年12月的句子“it more words to be polite”中的usually就不是重點，就可以不寫。
另外，考生也可以把更多看題時間留給聽寫，聽寫中高頻出現的詞彙不僅是文章的主題，更有可能出現在後三句的答案2中。
例題：
You probably have noticed that people express similar ideas in different ways depending on the situation they are in. This is very 1 . 11、There are bound to and phrases that belong in formal language and others that are informal.
Be bound to 意思是：必然會…。本句的重點並非是這個短語。正式聽力時，一旦遇到很難的或沒有學過的短語或詞彙，我們可以考慮捨棄。而本句如果改版為some words and phrases are formal and others are informal.同樣可以獲得很好的分數。
