英語中有些句子形式上是否定的，但是內容含義上卻是肯定的，英語中的否定形式表示肯定意義。
一、 cannot wait 後跟不定式， 意為“急於做”，表示強調的肯定
I couldn’t wait to see her. 我渴望見到她。
I cannot wait to read the book. 我非常渴望讀到這本書。
二、 cannot/couldn’t＋too意為 “越……越…… ，非常，無論怎樣……也不過分” 在此結構中，cannot 也可改用can hardly，scarcely，never，impossible；too也可改用over，enough等。
A man can never have too many friends. 朋友越多越好。
He cannot see you quickly enough. 他想很快見到你。
三、 not… until/ till 意為 “直到……的時候才”
People take no thought of the value of time until they lose it.人們失去時間後才知道時間的價值
It was not until the next day that I knew that truth. 直到第二天我才知道真相。
He did not go to bed until his mother came back. 直到他母親回來他才睡覺。
四、否定詞＋but
1、not(no)…but
There is no man but has his faults. 人皆有過。
No one believes but she will succeed. 人們相信他會成功。
There is no one but knows him. 人人都認識他。
2、 never (not)…but (that) 意為 “每當……, 總是……, 沒有哪次不是……”。
I never see you but I think of my mother. 每當看見你時,我總是想起我的'母親。
He will not be angry but that he is offended. 人們惹了他他才會生氣。
3、 nothing but /none but 意為 “僅僅,只,只有……才”。
We can see nothing but water. 我們只能看見水。
None but me knew what happened. 只有我知道發生了什麼事情。
He chose none but the best. 他只選最好的。
五、 not long before 意為“不久……就……”
It was not long before he appeared. 他不久就出現了。
六、 否定詞＋without 意為 “ 每 …… 必”
What appeared to me wonderful was that none of the ants came home without bringing something. 使我感到驚奇的是每隻螞蟻回來都帶回一些東西。
There is no smoke without fire. 有煙必有火。
七、 no (none) other than意為 “僅僅,完全”
She is none other than my teacher. 她正是我的老師，英語語法《英語中的否定形式表示肯定意義》。
The letter was written by none other than Mary. 寫這封信的正是瑪莉。
八、 too + 形容詞 / 副詞 + not ＋ 不定式 “非常……必定能，太……不會不”
1. 本句型是對too … to 的否定，表示肯定意思。
His speech was too good not to stir the audience. 他的演講太好了，不會不使觀眾轟動。
He is too foolish not to say it. 他那麼傻，不會不把這事說出來。
2. 若 把否定詞放到前面not too … to 表示這並不太……所以能。
He is not too old to do it. 他做這件事，年齡並不老。
3. never too … to (永不/決不……)。
It is never too late to give up prejudices. 放棄偏見永遠不晚。
九、 more often than not意為 “常常,往往”
John is a good swimmer. He wins more often than not.
The street is crowded more often than not. 這條大街常常很擁擠。
十、 否定詞＋比較級( 相當於最高階)
I couldn’t agree more. 我非常同意。
Nothing is more valuable than health. 健康是最寶貴的。
十一、 not a little意為 “很,很多”
He is not a little tired. 他非常累。
He has not a little experience. 他有著豐富的經驗。
十二、 某些不用回答和表達說話人感情的疑問句
1. 否定修辭性疑問句表示非常強烈的肯定。
Who does not know? (=Everybody knows.) 誰不知道?(意思是“人人知道”)
2. 否定感嘆疑問句表示的肯定。
Isn’t that beautiful! 多麼美麗呀!
Isn’t she a sweet girl! 她多麼可愛啊!
注：這種疑問句用來回答別人的問題或對別人的談話做出反應,以強調自己和對方的意見一致。
---Lovely day, isn’t it? 天氣真好啊,是不是?
---Yes, isn’t it! 是啊,真好!
3. 祈使疑問句。
Won’t you have some beer? 請喝點啤酒吧！
Won’t you sit down! 請坐呀!
十三、否定的習慣用語表示的肯定
有些習慣用法,雖然形式上是否定的,但意義卻是肯定的。
He’ll be at home now, as likely as not.(=He’ll probably be at home now.)
他很可能現在在家。
