因為市面上雖然有很多單詞書，但是幾乎無一例外的都是由一個預設值的，這個預設值就是這些單詞書都是為大學生而準備的，因此這些單詞書裡面都是去掉了絕大多數四級詞彙的。
那麼大學四級考試是一個怎樣的考試呢?簡單來說就是略高於中國的大學聯考。那麼如果我們比較起來就會發現，如果你能輕鬆的通過中國的大學聯考之中的.英語部分，那麼將來在大學的四級考試之中，你就會發現其實是遊刃有餘的。因此從這個角度來看，大學四級的單詞量是略等於大學聯考的英語單詞量的。但是很遺憾，高中的英語老師從來沒有告訴我們這一點，否則的話，我們其實從高一就開始背單詞的話，恐怕早就把中國的大學聯考英語踩在腳下了。
現在很多準備出國的考友們，要麼是中學生，要麼是對於自己的大學不是特別如意的。因此選擇出國留學。對於這些學生來說，很多人在自己的高中階段並沒有取得十分令人滿意的成績，在準備托福考試的時候，往往因為對於這個考試不是特別的熟悉，一開始就從託福單詞起步。但是在接下來的閱讀以及聽力部分之中，經常就會發現做題很困難，這時不是這些考友們不盡力而是基礎沒有打好，是這個原因。
因此如果正在讀國中，抑或是高中，要麼是你認為自己的大學並不令人滿意而決定準備托福考試的時候，一定要記得準備托福考試的時候，除了你買到的託福單詞書裡面的單詞需要你背，你還要將中國的大學四級單詞背過，否則你永遠都會有一種提升乏力的感覺!
而且這裡尤其提醒很多0起點的考友們，在準備托福考試的時候，不要認為託福單詞書就包含了所有你在托福考試裡面所會考到的所有的單詞，一定要記得將所有的大學四級單詞背過!尤其是最近無老師接到了很多自學托福考試的人，發現自己的成績飄忽不定，這個問題一方面是因為語法基礎不牢，對於託福的認識不夠;另一方面就是因為單詞基礎沒有打牢。因此從這個角度來說，現在市面上是沒有任何一本專門針對於低起點的托福考友所準備的單詞書，這不能不說是一個遺憾。
