There are actually many ways of saying no, different words express different nuance: 有很多種方法說“No”,每種方式都有細微的區別
1. Nope
Nope is a very casual way of saying no: Nope
If you didn't have the "e" at the end, you will get "nop[nɑp]" not "nope [nəʊp]":
"Nope" sounds more friendly and relaxed, whereas "no" can sound too strong: Nope的語氣跟No相比更友善、更輕鬆,有時候“No”會顯得太強硬
- Adam do you wanna join me for lunch?
- No
- Adam, do you like your lunch?
- Nope.
It's rejection after all. They are all going to be negative, but "nope" adds more positivity:其實所有的No都是拒絕,但是"nope" 可以起到緩解語氣的作用
2. Nah
“Nah”
- Adam, do you wanna join me for lunch?
- Nah, I'd better stay in the office.
It doesn't sound that harsh:
Be careful don't make it sound like a sheep's bah:
Uh-uh: no
uh-huh: yes
In the "Yes" show, there was another word similar to this:
It's quite similar, just the spelling is different:
Black women:
Children:
Uh-uh sounds a bit whiny: uh-uh
Guys don't use this too often: 男的不太用這個uh-uh
Guys are more forceful, so they'll use somethingf like "no way": 男生說no會更強硬一些,比如用“No way”↓↓
4. No way/No way, Jose
No way Jose!
Jose is a common Spanish name: Jose
There're many Hispanics in America, so there's a huge Spanish langugage influence:
No way Jose?
Jose is like the "average Joe". It's a common name: Jose
It doesn't mean a particular person. It just rhymes: 不是特指某個Jose, 主要是押韻
It's a quite cute and fun expression:
