一、背單詞的重要性
語言學家TERREL認為，只要掌握了足夠的'單詞，即使沒有多少語法知識，外語學習者也能較好地理解外語和用外語進行表達。（我好像已經看到無數小同學們怒扔語法書的場景）但是！！語言學家WILKINS有一句經典的名言："沒有語法只能傳達很少（注意是很少）的資訊，沒有詞彙則什麼也無法傳達。"美國語言學家Diller研究表明，假如我們認識25個單詞，平均每一頁上我們就認識23%個單詞；假如我們認識135個單詞，該百分比就達到50%；2500個單詞量相當於78%；5000個單詞量相應於86%；10000個單詞量相當於92%。
所以，單詞量越大的同學們在閱讀理解中看懂的部分就越多，正確率就就越大。而針對四六級考試，大綱要求的詞彙量分別是4500和6000。
二、哪類單詞最重要？
背單詞的主要任務是解決三類詞，名詞，動詞，形容詞。但是名詞其實是可以描述的，操作方法為：功能作用描述詞+屬性詞。例如：六級翻譯中的"火藥"，正確說法是gunpowder。但是考前沒記過，也不用捉急，可以描述為blasting（爆炸功能） powder （屬性為粉末）。在閱讀理解中，假如遇到不認識的詞，直接把它理解成xxxxxx東西繼續往下讀，就可以啦。而且，在閱讀理解中，不認識的名詞可以幫助定位。四六級有3%的超綱率，所以即使考前橫掃單詞大綱的同學們，一篇文章會有四五個單詞不認識，用圈圈標記出來，後面有驚喜哦。你會發現文章後的題目中，這個生詞些許就成了定位詞，這個時候在考場上千萬要控制自己的情緒，不要高興過頭啊。有的同學們說，呀，這樣的話，我滿篇都是圈圈，要密集恐懼了。對於這種同學們，我也只能說，且行且珍惜，重在參與吧。所以，對於時間緊任務重的同學們，背單詞的精力盡量放在動詞和形容詞上。
三、背單詞的方法
如今背單詞主流的方法是運用詞根詞綴。只要想想中文就知道，你會把記個單立人旁，之後打通所有與人有關的單詞當成一種負擔麼？記詞根詞綴也是同樣的道理。加之就像中文裡偏旁部首是其他漢字的變形，英文中詞根詞綴也是可以認祖歸宗的。例如詞根sid—：，大家水汪汪的大眼睛都可以看出它就是sit的弟弟。之後頭上戴個花，別個髮卡就是我們的四級單詞preside和reside了。
