連詞是一種虛詞， 它不能獨立擔任句子成分而只起連線詞與詞，短語與短語以及句與句的作用。連詞主要可分為兩類：並列連詞和從屬連詞。並列連詞用來連線平行的詞、片語和分句。如：and, but, or, nor, so, therefore, yet, however, for, hence, as well as, both…and, not only…but also, either…or, neither…nor, (and)then等等。
(誤)He neither speaks English nor French.
(正)He speaks neither English nor French.(either…or，not only…but also等對等相關連詞所連線的部份應是相同詞性或起相同作用。)
2.中文：由於今天感覺不適，我決定待在家裡。
(誤)For I did not feel well today, decided to stay at home.
(正)I decided to stay at home for I did not feel well today.(對等連詞for連線兩個對等的.句子時不可放在句首。)
3.中文：不是你錯了就是我錯了。
(誤)Either you or I are wrong.
(正)Either you or I am wrong.(在含有either…or的句子中，謂語動詞的數由較近的主語決定。)
4.中文：雖然他很富有，但他並不快樂。
(誤)Although he is very rich, but he is not happy.
(正)Although he is very rich, he is not happy.(though或although放在字句首時，本身就具有雖然…但是的意思，不可和but連用。)
5.中文：我從來沒有去過倫敦和巴黎。
(誤)I have never been to London and Paris.
(正)I have never been to London or Paris.(在否定句中，對等連詞一般不用and，而用or。)
6.中文：他向我道歉我才跟他說話。
(誤)I shall speak to him until he apologizes.
(正)I shan't speak to him until he apologizes.(not…until表示到…時候才，在此句中speak的動作要等到他道歉時才發生。)
7.中文：因為我想學英語，所以我買了一本字典。
(誤)Because I wanted to learn English, so I bought a dictionary.
(正)Because I wanted to learn English, I bought a dictionary.(because本身就具有因為…所以的意思，不可再和so連用。)
