格林威治村的萬聖節巡遊﹝Greenwich Village Halloween Parade﹞始於1973年，由一位面具工匠兼木偶演員Mr Ralph Lee發起，據說最初他帶著朋友和孩童一起在鄰居處遊行，後來漸漸演變成整個村的大型活動，而活動中當然少不了大型木偶表演，同時，巡行的目的更希望每一個人都是參與者而不是旁觀者，所以即使人們只是抱著想看熱鬧的心態，當你踏進村子裡，很快便會被邀請參與巡行，成為他們的一份子。
紐約市的萬聖節巡遊每年都吸引成千上萬的紐約人和遊客參加，而巡遊會在格林威治村﹝Greenwich Village﹞舉行，各隊伍約在夜晚上七時從第六大道與春天街交界﹝6th Avenue & Spring Street﹞起步，一直遊行至第二十三街﹝6th Avenue & 23rdStreet﹞為止，全程大概多個小時。
無論是來自亞洲，南美，非洲，歐洲，以至中東地區的參觀者，都可以把自己裝扮成各式各樣的人物，亦可帶備簡單樂器，即時演奏本土的獨特音樂，融合無疆界的風土文化。可能我以前從未參加過萬聖節的活動，更莫說這麼精彩的巡遊，所以特別覺得有新鮮感。
早於十月中，曼哈頓市已開始“鬧鬼”了，在繁忙的街道上，已看見四處懸掛起萬聖節的鬼怪裝飾，很多百貨公司也忙著把應節禮品及衣物堆放在櫥窗裡，吸引不少途人駐足觀看，而超級市場及街市亦擺放大大小小的南瓜售賣，供市民買回家佈置家園或製作南瓜燈之用，當然嘛，也有主婦烹煮南瓜作菜餚或糕餅，完全依足節慶傳統。
