要是沒有能獨立思考和獨立判斷的有創造能力的個人，社會的向上發展就不可想象。
發展獨立思考和獨立判斷的一般能力，應當始終放在首位。而不應當把獲得專業知識放在首位。如果一個人掌握了他的學科的基礎理論，並且學會了獨立地思考和工作，他必定會找到他自己的道路，而且比起那種主要以獲得細節知識為培訓內容的人來，他一定會更好地適應進步和變化。
提出一個問題往往比解決一個問題更重要，因為解決問題也許僅是一個數學上或實驗上的技能而已。而提出新的問題，新的可能性，從新的角度去看舊的問題，卻需要有創造性的想象力，而且標誌著科學的真正進步。
每當我腦子中沒有什麼特別問題需要思考時，我就喜歡重新驗證我早已知道的數學和物理定理。這樣做並沒有什麼目的，只是為了讓自己有機會充分享受一下專心思考的愉快。
