定語從句中關係代詞省略
一、that在定語從句中作表語時的省略。
關係代詞作be 的表語,且先行詞是特指時,關係代詞通常用that(不用who或which)或省略:
He doesn't seem to be the man (that) he was ten years ago.他看起來已經不是十年前的樣子了。 The modernaeroplaneis not themachine (that) it was when first invented.現代飛機已不是最先發明時的那種樣子了。
She was notthe cheerful woman (that) she was before she married.她已經不是結婚前的那個漂亮女人了。
She is all (that) a teacher should be.她具備一個老師應該具備的`所有條件。
但如果先行詞是泛指時,關係代詞通常用which,且不省略:
Even if John were a millionaire which he was not,he would not use a farthing of his wealth to benefit the people.即使約翰是個百萬富翁,他也不會用他的一分錢去做有益於人民的事。而他並不是百萬富翁。
He looked like a lawyer which he was.他像個律師,而他也的確是個律師。
二、that在從句中作補語時。例如:

He is not the man (that) he used to be. She is all (that) a teacher should be.
三、作狀語時的省略。
1. 當先行詞是reason,且在定語從句中作原因狀語時,可以用關係副詞why或關係代詞that,也可以省略。例如:
The reason (why/that) he failed was his laziness. 他失敗的原因是因為他懶惰。
That is the reason I did it. 那就是我做那件事的原因。
2. 當先行詞是way,且在定語從句中作方式狀語時,關聯詞可用in which或that,也可以省略。例如:
The way(in which/ that) these comrades look at problems is wrong.這些同志看待問題的方式是錯誤的。

3. 當先行詞是time時,關聯詞可用when, that或省略。例如:
