條件狀語從句就是在複合句中表示主句動作發生條件的狀語從句。引導條件狀語從句最經常用的連詞是if，它的意思是“如果”;除此之外，還有其他一些連詞，它們也多少含有“如果”的意思，也可用於引導條件狀語從句。
1. 用if引導：if意為“如果”。如：
You can’t take photographs if the light is bad. 光線不足，就無法拍照。
If you cheat in the exam you’ll never get away with it. 考試作弊必予追究。
2. 用unless引導：unless的.意思是“如果不”“除非”。如：
Don’t act unless you’re certain. 沒有把握就不要做。
Unless you go at once you will be late. 如果你不馬上走，就會遲到的。
3. 用as [so] long as引導：as [so] long as的意思是“如果”“只要”。如：
I’ll remember that day as long as I live. 只要我活著，我就不會忘記那個日子。
You may take my dictionary as long as you don’t keep it too long. 只要使用時間不太長，你可以把我的詞典拿去。
4. 用in case引導：in case用連詞引導條件狀語從句時，其意為“如果”“萬一”。如：
In case I’m late, start without me. 萬一我遲到，就不等我了。
In case I forget, please remind me about it. 萬一我忘記，請提醒我一下。
5. 條件狀語從句的時態：當主句為將來時態或含有將來意義時，條件狀語從句習慣上要用一般現在時表示將來意義，而不能直接使用將來時態。如：
■不知道明天是否會下雨，但要是下雨的話，我就呆在家裡。
誤：I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. But if it will rain tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.
正：I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. But if it rains tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.
句中的第一個 if 引導的是賓語從句(if=是否)，從句謂語用將來時態表示將來意義;第二個if引導的是條件狀語從句(if=如果)，從句謂語要用一般現在時表示將來意義。
