上面報道中的Miss Average就是指“女性大眾臉”，所謂“大眾臉”也就是具有某地區人們長相共同特徵的臉龐。不過，很多人都覺得大眾臉是“長相平庸”的另一種說法，因此不會把這種稱呼當作讚美。相比之下，人們更喜歡聽到別人說自己是celebrity look-alike(明星臉)。
Average和plain這個詞一樣通常用來表示“平均的、普通的”，例如average Joe/plain Jane都表示各方面都一般，不怎麼出眾的“普通人”;而如果在average前面加上above或者below則分別表示“高於”或“低於”一般水平，例如：His grade is above average.(他的成績屬於中等偏上水平。)
