  【範文分享】

What is the purpose of life? Aristotle in his legendary masterpiece “Ethics” enlightened us with the pursuance of happiness. In my opinion, although a man’s family is essential for the formation of his character and temperament, the awareness of the most important lesson, self-realization, can only be acquired through in-depth deliberation and accumulation of experience about the society.

The development of reason, or the so-called rationality, which is an important aspect of self-realization, is only feasible with careful and lengthy consideration. A man has to spend a great deal of time on study in order to know the proper methods of thinking such as analyzation and evaluation. For most people, learning academic knowledge at school facilitates the process of owning these skills though the value of self-education should not be underestimated too. For example, the study of math can equip students with the skill of deduction while they can acquaint themselves with the method of induction through learning physics. Eventually, possessing the knowledge of thinking enables the man to ponder the abstract questions such as who he is and what unique functions he has as a rational being in contrast to a fractious animal. The outcome of his careful evaluation about pros and cons toward these questions reflects the progress he made and his maturity about the development of reason.

Learning the other aspect of self-realization, which is to recognize and realize one’s full potential, is indispensable from close and intensive interaction with the society. As plausible as it seems, pure speculation cannot provide real and concrete ideas in relation to what a man should aim to do and how to achieve the goal during his short life. Indeed, it is naïve to believe that you can calibrate yourself in the society at a somewhat moderate and comfortable position without being conscious of the extreme high and the lower end of the life at least. The experience of material life and interaction with other members of the society not only illustrate the actual consequence of making choice but also reveal the meaning of abstract virtues such as honesty, courage, fairness, etc., in reality. These valuable life lessons can help the man to be aware of his potential and the path to realize it.

In conclusion, it is my opinion that the most important lesson people should learn can only be taught through oneself rather than family.
