(1) besides 的意思是除之外還有，該介詞後面所表示的人或物等也包括在總數內。
Ten of us passed besides Tom. (= Tom passed too.)
(2) except 的意思是不包括在內，除去，該介詞後面所表示的人或物等不包括在總數內。
All of us passed except Tom. (= Tom did not pass.)
它的後面除接名詞和代詞外還可以接介詞、副詞或以that、when引導的從句。
He has always been in good health except in the past few days|quite recently I that he had a slight headache in the past few days / when he had a headache.
(3) but 作除外的意思有一些限制，它只能用在no one, none, all, nobody everyone, everything, who,what, where 等之後，而except的限制很少。
(4) except for 表示除外一般是指後面所除開的'內容與前面的內容具有所屬關係或後面的部分對前面部分在細節上加以修正。如果後面的東西與前面的東西屬於同類語，則用except。
