The Chinese government then stepped in and helped saved the pandas from extinction. Without the support of the Chinese government, there would be no pandas today. The support of the government is also needed, because it is the only entity with the authority to stop private businesses from taking over land. Without government protection of nature preserves, the land could very well be sold to a company. The company then has the right to cut down all the trees and set up polluting factories.
