便條
便條多用於較熟的親友、同事之間，以代替一般的私人書信及公務書信,因此便條除具有書信的一般特徵外，還有某些特殊性：
(1)臨時性和緊迫性。便條多是臨時性的通知、詢問，內容大多有較緊迫的時間限制，比如通知當事人立即給某處回電話，通知醫生即刻出診等等。所以，便條大多是匆忙寫在紙條上託人轉交或留在某處。
(2)非正式性。便條所寫的基本都是可以公開的普通事宜，而且內容大都非常簡單，幾句話就可以說清楚，不必採用非常的書信形式，也不用緘口。
由於便條的以上兩個特徵，便條在形式上具有以下特點：
(1)簡化書信格式。便條既不用信封，不寫收信人與發信人地址，也不寫結尾問候語。不詳細寫明年月日，而只寫星期，或日月。由於時間大多發生在一兩天內，常常要寫明上、下午或鐘點。日期可寫於正文右上角或末尾署名之下，沒有很嚴格的`限制。
(2)簡化稱呼及簽署。便條多用於相熟的朋友、同事或家人之間，稱呼用語應親切、隨便，不可過於正式。如可用Mary, Dear Johnson等等。署名也可以只寫姓或只寫名。因為即使公務便條，也多用於同一部門，大家相互熟悉，筆跡也容易認讀。
(3)語言通俗而口語化。便條形式隨便，語言也應通俗。要儘量避免用大詞和過分正式的句子。如儘量用：“Just a line to tell you that…”而不用“This is to inform you that…”，用“put off ”而不用“postpone”。句子的結構儘量簡單。
例如：
你到一個叫李英的同學家，通知他一件事，碰巧他不在家，你給他留了張便條，內容如下：
a. 明天的課將推遲到本星期六下午2點，因為明天你要參加勞動—植樹，上午7點在校門口集合出發。
b.前天你把雨傘落在他家房子的前門外，請他明天上課時替你帶來。
