一、熟悉託福口語考察話題
這裡的話題是針對託福口語第一、二題而言的。
託福口語第一題要求考生就某一常規話題用英語做45秒鐘的陳述。考生對於這道題的準備應主要集中在人物、事物、事件、地點這幾個話題大類。
託福口語第二題要求考生在提供的兩個選擇中選擇自己喜歡的一個，並用細節和例子支援自己的觀點。話題包括成功類、工作類、交通類、教育類、科技類、媒體類、人物類、社會類、生活方式類、文化類、政府類。
二、準備好託福口語模板
託福口語模板是為了讓基礎一般考生在考場上發揮出高於自己能力的表達內容。也是為了考生在口語答題時有清晰的思路。託福口語的每個題目都有相應的模板。

三、託福口語提升技巧
1.重視官方指南，機經與TPO
對於中國大陸地區托福考生，特別是備考時間比較緊張的托福考生，最理想的複習資料就是官方指南，機經與TPO。
官方指南是大陸地區考生唯一可以獲得的由ETS釋出的托福考試權威輔導書。裡面對於考試形式，內容以及評分標準都做了全面清楚的解釋。特別是其中的評分標準部分，對於託福口語考試非常重要。
2.平時創造英語學習的環境
功夫要從平時做起。有機會就開啟錄影機、錄音機、磁帶或光碟，有意識或無意識地跟聽或跟說英語。也可以上網與北美人士交流。雖說新託福口語主要考查交際、交流能力，但語音、語調和重音都會影響到成績。建議平時練習對牆、對鏡子說話，力圖達到自然流暢的'程度。
四、託福口語答題技巧
首先，掌控好時間。前兩道題的準備時間為15秒，回答時間是45秒;3、4題的準備時間是30秒，回答時間則是60秒;最後兩道題目的準備時間是20秒，回答時間為60秒。大部分考生都反映口語部分的準備時間利用效率低、做答倉促。如第1、2中的題目屬於日常話題，這兩道題本身難度比較小，所以特別需要注意的就是時間的分配問題，在這45秒鐘裡，一般用5～6秒完成topic sentence, 接下來的40秒應以每一個detail或者example不超過3～4句話的規律完成該話題，也就是說大致20秒完成一個detail或example的表述。
然後，託福口語要減少口頭禪。託福口語考試對考生最具挑戰性的一點是考生幾乎沒有深入思考的時間，從給出題目到開始考試，只有短短的15秒鐘，卻要求在45秒鐘之內給出一個有頭有尾的完整回答。托福考試是對考生英語素質的考察，很多考生面對計算機，不自覺就會出現很多口頭禪，毫無意義的“啊、嗯”的音節，更有甚者，將自己的中文口頭禪也說出來。這些無意義的詞語出現在只有45秒的口語答案中，很具殺傷力。
