於是，一場別開生面的比賽正式拉開了帷幕。首先是我和張心然之間的。比賽規則如下：一組11個英語單詞，分高者勝。比賽開始了，張老師首先報：“地板”。我毫不猶豫地寫出“FLOOY”，哈！張心然竟然把“L”寫為“T”了，我先贏了一分。這時張老師繼續報“香蕉、蘋果、西瓜、梨。”我倆馬上BANANA、 APPLE 、WATERMELON、 PEAR四個單詞，教師見我們寫好了又大聲說：“我、我們、我們的，一堂有趣的英語課。”我自信地寫上了I、WE 、OUR。教師見了微微一笑說：“同學。”我猶豫了一下，最後不報希望地寫了CLASSMATE，不等我喘一口氣，老師又說出“教室”，我們聽後不約而同地寫出CLASSROOM，這時老師報了最後一個單詞“去玩”，我寫上“GO TO PLAY”後馬上回到了座位上坐好，忐忑不安地等待老師宣佈比賽結果。最後我終於以滿分（100分）打敗了91分的張心然，我高興地邊蹦邊叫“耶，我贏了！”

今天下午要上英語課時，老師在黑板上寫了一組英語單詞是“raining cat sand dogs”,讓我們講一講它的意思。我低下頭思索著：cats,dogs是“貓”和“狗”的複數形式，表示“許多貓”和“許多狗”，raining是“雨”的意思。合起來是什麼呢？我正在冥思苦想，有同學舉起說說：“天上掉下來很多貓和狗。”頓時教室裡的同學們鬨堂大笑起來，互相交頭接耳，都在討論這個詞語的意思，最後還是老師解開了謎團。老師說：“同學們英語學得還可以，記住了每個單詞的含義。”這幾個單詞合起來的意思是傾盆大雨。英語和漢語一樣，一些單詞和單詞組合起來有特殊的`含義、固定的用法，就像漢語的成語、諺語似的。剛才老師說的這幾個單詞合起來，就不是單個兒的意思了，而是“傾盆大雨”的意思。
