打招呼是英語中最基本的表達，由於中西方文化的差異，所以見面打招呼的英語也要注意。英語中打招呼和我們中文日常的打招呼差別很大。
外國人見面時通常只是說Hello或Hi或How are you doing ?或How are you doing this morning ? How are things with you ?
如果過了一段時間再見面，還可以說How is life treating you ?
若遇上熟人的話，甚至可以說(pigeon English混雜英語) Long time no see(you)用上。
初次見面時聽到對方說How do you do ?時，
正確的反應也是How do you do ?
這只是個問句形式的問候語，回答對方時告訴對方你哪兒痛、哪兒不舒服就錯了。
而我們不少人喜歡說I'm fine, thank you,這不符合習慣。
而初次見面分手時，我們有人常說Good-bye;但你如果仔細注意的話，
native speakers說Nice meeting you或Nice to have met you.
見面時非要打招呼說句問候語嗎?
不見得。
如和西方人一起在中國乘臥鋪火車，同車廂的人一大早衣著不整，頭髮蓬亂，拿著肥皂、梳子和牙刷穿過夾道的時候，
最適宜的做法是設法把眼睛朝窗外瞧，假裝沒有看見。說了Good morning反而令對方窘迫，這時你不打招呼絕非失禮。

和朋友打招呼，再可以說：
