快速閱讀要求考生在15分鐘內完成一篇1200字左右的文章和後面的10道題。前面7個題是判斷正誤，後3個是填空題，後3個是填空題。從文章的篇幅和題目的設定都讓我們感覺到，考生在複習階段必須有意識地培養快速閱讀能力，以便有效地應對這個部分的測試。
快速閱讀能力的提高固然有賴於考生在大量閱讀中逐步的積累。但是，在平時的訓練的時候，應該注意通過對邏輯關係、標點符號乃至一些特徵語言資訊點，乃至尋讀等方法的積極運用，實現文章主旨的快速把握，並對隨後的題目作出有效的判斷和填寫。
一、邏輯關係在快速閱讀中的運用
快速閱讀理解能力的提高是有一定方法可循的，為此我們首先提示考生應該尤其注意文章邏輯關係在快速閱讀中的運用。邏輯關係散佈在文章的句子內部、句句之間、以及段落之間。最基本的邏輯關係有以下幾種：
1、因果關係：
as a result ，therefore，hence，consequently，because, for, dueto, hence, consequently等等。
2、並列、遞進關係：
and, or, then，in addition，besides，in other words，moreover等等
3、轉折關係：
however，but, yet, in fact等等。
這些我們其實已經很熟悉的邏輯提示詞在文章中起的效果，並非僅僅是銜接文章的句子，從閱讀的角度來看，其實同時在給我們某種提示，告訴我們哪些句子是有效資訊，相對重要的資訊，哪些資訊是相對不重要的資訊，因為我們在處理文章的時候，有一條清晰的思路，你不文章而進行閱讀，而是為了獲取主旨來閱讀。
例如樣題中的第一段：You have just finished your meal at a fast food restaurant and you throw your uneaten food, food wrappers, drink cups, utensils and napkins into the trash can. You dont think about that waste again. On trash pickup day in your neighborhood, you push your can out to the curb, and workers dump the contents into a big truck and haul it away. You dont have to think about that waste again, either. But maybe you have wondered, as you watch the trash truck pull away, just where that garbage ends up.
我們注意到，在該段尾部出現了But。這裡的But，說明作者陳述的內容的邏輯主旨發生了變化，因此，轉折邏輯詞之前的資訊就變得不重要了，簡單的處理方法是可以僅保留閱讀轉折詞之後的資訊。
相應地，並列、遞進關係詞，意味著它們前後銜接的資訊從主旨的體現上沒有發生變化，而更多的表現為前後句子主旨的相似性，所以我們選擇其中的一半進行閱讀。這樣，在保證了閱讀質量的基礎上，也極大地提高了閱讀速度。如樣題中How Is a Landfill Operated?一段中：
Along the site, there are drop-off stations for materials that are not wanted or legally banned by the landfill. A multi-material drop-off station is used for tires, motor oil, lead-acid batteries. Some of these materials can be recycled. In addition, there is a household hazardous waste drop-off station for chemicals that are banned from the landfill. These chemicals are disposed of by private companies.
注意到In addition，該詞的出現意味著其後內容和上一段資訊主旨基本一致，可以放棄本句的閱讀。
二、標點符號在快速閱讀中的運用
可以運用標點符號瞭解不認識的詞彙或句子的含義。因為這些標點符號的出現就是為了更進一步地其前的資訊。但同時，由於快速閱讀用詞相對比較簡單，很容易理解和把握標點前的被解釋資訊，所以，可以將這些標點符號後面的資訊刪除，從而更加快速地把握文章的主旨。
例如樣題中有下列資訊：
Dumpan open hole in the ground where trash is buried and that is full of various animals . Landfillcarefully designed structure built into or on top of the ground in which trash is isolated from the surrounding environment . This isolation is accomplished with a bottom liner and daily covering of soil. 注意到在Dump、 Landfill之後分別有一個破折號，如果我們已經明白該標點的意義就在於後面的資訊對前者進一步進行解釋，那麼就可以在明白這些單詞基本含義的基礎上，放棄其後資訊的閱讀，因為，閱讀理解，我們更強調的'是對文章主旨資訊的把握，而不是具體的細節資訊。
三、特殊資訊點在快速閱讀中的運用
所謂特殊資訊點是指那些很容易在文章中識別的詞彙，諸如，時間，數字，大寫字母等形式的語言點。這些形式的表達一方面很容易識別出來，另一方面，這些資訊點的表現的一般都是文章的瑣碎資訊，對於主旨的理解和把握而言，不過是更進一步論證而已。因此，可以忽略這些資訊的閱讀。如果後面測試的題點中確實涉及到了，再回來細讀也無妨，畢竟它們的表現形式非常利於查詢和定位判斷。
如樣題中How Much Trash Is Generated?一段中：
Of the 210 million tons of trash, or solid waste, generated in the United States annually, about 56 million tons, or 27 percent, is either recycled or composted .
再如樣題中How Is Trash Disposed of一段中：
the trash production in the United States has almost tripled since 1960. This trash is handled in various ways. About 27 percent of the trash is recycled or composted, 16 percent is burned and 57 percent is buried in landfills. The amount of trash buried in landfills has doubled since 1960.
我們注意到上面的描述中充斥了大量的數字性的詞彙，可以判斷該部分資訊為具體的描述，在處理的時候，可以放棄閱讀。
四、尋讀在快速閱讀中的運用
尋讀的目的主要是有目標地去找出文中某些特定的資訊，也就是說，在對文章有所瞭解後，在文章中查詢與某一問題、某一觀點或某一單詞有關的資訊，尋找解題的可靠依據。尋讀時，要以很快的速度掃視文章，確定所查詢的資訊範圍。值得慶幸的是，在四級快速閱讀的測試文章中，已經有了明確的小標題，這就能夠幫助我們很快地鎖定解題範圍。同時，還應該注意題目中體現出的所查資訊的特點。如：問題或填空的句子中涉及到人名、地名，則主要尋找首字母大寫的單詞;有關日期、數目的問題，則主要查詢具體數字;有關某個事件、某種觀點等，就需要尋找與此相關的關鍵詞，而與所查資訊無關的內容可一掠而過。
如樣題第6題：In the United States the building of landfills is the job of both federal and local governments.
在判斷時，一些特殊的用詞，United States，building of landfills都提示我們順利找到原文的In the United States, taking care of trash and building landfills are local government responsibilities.來判斷正誤。
隨後的第9題：To dispose of a ton of trash in a landfill, customers have to pay a tipping fee of . 則可以通過customers、 tipping fee找到原文Customers are charged tipping fees for using the site. The tipping fees vary from $10 to $40 per ton.來填寫空格。
總的來說，從最新的樣題來看，快速閱讀理解部分由於其篇幅長，題目靈活，會讓考生感覺無從下手。但是，對於該題型我們有一個清晰的概念，測試的重點就是考生在短時間內獲取篇章主旨和特定資訊的能力，因此，它更強調了正確的閱讀方法和技巧的貫徹。只要我們掌握一定的方法，培養好的閱讀習慣，還是很容易在一段時間內取得滿意的成績。
