GMAT考試內容為：數學、語文和分析寫作。GMAT考試內容包括七個部分試題，每個Section的考試時間為30分鐘，其中有閱讀理解、句子改錯、問題求解、資料填充以及原因評述各一個部分。剩下兩個部分的題型分佈都不一樣。這七個Sections試題中有一個是試測性部分，不計入GMAT成績。但由於分辨不出哪個Section不計分，因此所有部分的試題均要認真回答。
GMAT考試內容考察主要包括基本語言能力和數學能力。基本語言能力部分著重考察閱讀理解的能力和是否掌握標準書面英語的規則。數學能力部分則主要測試基本數學，對基礎數學概念的`瞭解以及解釋數學問題和資料的能力。考題中並不涉及經濟學各專業中的具體內容或特殊的專業知識，而是要求考生對某些複雜紛紜的問題做出正確的分析和判斷，制定解決問題的方法。

GMAT考試結束後，考生可以根據自己在考試中的表現，選擇保留或取消本次考試成績，從而一定程度上避免因為表現較差導致的低分被計入成績單中。但即使考試選擇了取消成績，成績單上仍會出現一個代表取消的“C”，對於追求完美的考生來說多少有些心裡不踏實的感覺，而本次改變後，此標示將被徹底刪除，以後也不會再顯示在成績單上，考生可以更加放心刷分，而不必擔心因此留下任何記錄。而之前考試成績單中的取消標示，也將被一併刪除。
