The capital city during the Liao, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Beijing has long been the political, cultural, and diplomatic center of China. It is now an international metropolis, home to 11 million people from all walks of life. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will give friends from all over the world an opportunity to experience Beijing, the capital city of China.
We need to advocate and erect the socialist concept of honor and disgrace and strive to cultivate civilized and healthy social ethics, with an aim to build up a society where civility and harmony are stressed.
The Beijing Olympic Games will be an occasion to spread modern Olympic ideas, while displaying splendid Chinese culture, Beijing's historical and cultural heritage, and its residents' positive attitudes. It will also be an opportunity to advance cultural exchanges, to deepen understanding and friendship between the peoples of the world, and to promote harmonious development between mankind and nature.
