1 . on earth 在地球上

We live on the earth , but in the future some will be able to live on the moon . 我們生活在地球上，將來有些人可能生活在月球上。
注意on earth 是“世界上；究竟”。如：
What on earth do you mean ? 你究竟是什麼意思 ?
He is the greatest man on earth . 他是世界上最偉大的'人。
2 . hour after hour 一小時接著一小時，不停地
If the population goes on hour after hour , it will be the biggest problem in our country . 如果人口一小時又一小時地繼續增長下去，它將成為我國最大的問題。

注意“比較級 + and + 比較級”表示“越來越……”。又如：

7 . no more than 只有，僅有
We have walked on more than ten miles . 我們走了頂多只有10英里。
It took her no more than an hour to write the article . 她僅僅花了一小時就寫完了那篇文章。
辨析：not more than 的意思是“至多”，“不超過”。試比較：
There are no more than five students in the classroom . 教室裡頂多只有五個學生。 ( 強調“人少”的意思 )
There are not more than five student in the classroom . 教室裡的學生不超過五人。 ( 強調“不超過”的意思 )
