when引導的定語從句可以放在主語，賓語或者表語，甚至為名詞的賓補之後。

When引導的定語從句與時間狀語從句的區分
的譯法不同。
在時間狀語中，when 翻譯成“當……的時候”
I want to be a teacher when I grow up.

在定語從句中，前置時，可以省略，後置時翻譯成“那時” 。
I won't forget the day when he says he loves me.

2. 位置不同，
在時間狀語中，when引導的從句可以在句首，可以主句之後。
定語從句中，when從句不能位於句首，且通常when前為表示時間的.名詞day、year等。
3. when在從句的作用不同。
在時間狀語從句中，when是連詞，只起連線主句和從句的作用，不做從句的任何成分。不過when引導的時間狀語從句修飾主句的謂語，做主句的時間狀語。
在定語從句中，when是關係副詞，在從句中代替先行詞做從句的時間狀語，修飾從句的謂語。
例1 I will always remember the days when I lived with my grandparents in the country.
例2 I always remember the days in the country when I see the photo of my grandparents.
