Abstract:
A Comparative Experimental Study of Ceramic Granules and and Biological Activated Carbons for Advanced Water Treatment Processes
The biological activated carbon acts as an excellent water filtration material because it possesses many favorable characteristics such as a large specific surf-ace area, a large pore volume, a strong absorption effect, etc., and it has been so popularly used for advanced water treatment. However, it possesses certain disadvantages such as expensive cost, a low strength, easily breakable, low backwash efficiency, etc. The ceramic granule is beoming more popular because of its large specific surf-ace area, high porosity, strong biofilm production and low-cost. The purpose of this pa-pe-r is to compare and contrast performace between biological activated carbons and ceramic granules used for advanced water treatment applications. Its does so by providing economic analysis and information relevant to these materials , ma-ki-ng a comprehensive performance comparison between them and providing a feasibility study for replacing biological activated carbons with ceramic granules in advanced water treatment applications.
